Petit-Rocher, June 24, 2016 – Alexander Aubé, Grade 12, of Petit-Rocher won first place in the Imagine Culture Photo Contest, Senior category, for his photo entitled Notre histoire ne date pas d’hier. The contest received over 300 submissions from youth ages 5 to 29.
Alexander’s photo of three sheds painted in the colours of the Acadian flag is accompanied by a poem about the historic persecution and resilience of the Acadian people.
The Passages Canada Imagine Culture Photo Contest encourages youth across Canada to explore issues of culture, identity, and immigration through photography. The entries were reviewed by a panel of Historica Canada and Passages Canada volunteers with backgrounds in the arts. The winning entries can be viewed here.
Passages Canada is a national storytelling program of Historica Canada that invites newcomers and established Canadians to share their personal experiences of identity, heritage, and immigration with groups of all ages. More than 1,000 volunteers participate in this storytelling program that nurtures cross-cultural dialogue and strengthens our appreciation for one another in an open spirit that is genuinely Canadian. Passages Canada is generously funded by TD Bank Group and Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
