Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Layla Sharif, daughter of an Afghan politician/diplomat was educated in Germany, Turkey, Pakistan, Japan and Russia, earning her M.A from Kiev State University, Ukraine, former USSR. She has completed the Refugee Issues Certificate Programme from York University Canada - Centre for Refugee Studies.
Layla Sharif is a very active member of the community and a supporter of a vast array of community-based organizations. She currently serves as a Member of the Historica-Dominion Institute's Speakers Bureau, Board member of the 43 Division-Community Police Liaison Committee, past Executive Board member and Chair of the Personnel Committee at N’sheemaehn Day Care Centre at University of Toronto Scarborough Campus, past Co-chair Parent Council Meadowvale Public School, past member of the UNESCO Toronto Branch -Educational committee.
Layla Sharif has worked for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Literacy Campaign in Kabul, Afghanistan for 6 years. Speaks different languages (English, Persian/Farsi, Russian and a little bit of German). She has been working for a Member of Parliament as his Constituency Office Manager since 1997.
